Anthropologie’s Somerset Dress is a cult favorite for a reason.  I bought one last fall (you can see our fall family photos here) and have worn it many times since then.  With warmer weather just around the corner, today I wanted to share a review of Anthropologie’s Somerset Dress in case you’re looking for a great maxi dress that flatters all body types!

Review of Anthropologie’s Somerset Dress

Anthropologie has been making the Somerset dress for a few years now and I finally bought one to wear for our fall family photos.  Here are some details on the fit, sizing, and why I love it.

How Does the Somerset Dress Run?

Anthro’s Somerset Maxi Dress runs true to size, but if you’re in between sizes I’d recommend sizing down.  I have a very small chest and my normal size fits nicely, though I likely could have sized down.  There is a clasp at the chest to keep it closed, but it can also be worn open.  I’m 5’5″ and can wear it with flats and heels.

Is the Somerset Maxi Dress Nursing Friendly?

I’m no longer in that phase of motherhood, but I nursed all of my children for over a year so I know how hard it can be to find stylish and nursing friendly dresses.  This dress is nursing friendly and pregnancy friendly!  You can easily just unclasp the hook and eye closure and nurse with no issue.  The three bands at the waist are all elastic and they help accentuate the waist nicely and I think the dress would work well for pregnancy up until early 3rd trimester.  After that you may want to size up.

Why I love the Somerset Dress

I love that the Somerset dress has pockets and I love that it’s comfortable.  The cotton poplin material doesn’t cling and it makes it nice to wear year round.  I love wearing mine with tall brown boots in fall and winter, but I know that once it’s warmer I will easily be able to wear it with sandals.  The dress comes in many different prints throughout the year, and it is also available as a long sleeve maxi, as a short sleeve mini, and as a long sleeve mini.  It’s the best dress to wear to church, to brunch, for family photos, and to baby showers.  I can’t recommend the Somerset Dress enough!

Somerset Dress Dupe?

If you’re looking for a Somerset dress dupe, I’ve found a number of options that look very similar at various price points.  The tiered maxi dress from Quince is only $69 and it looks so similar!  It doesn’t come in fun prints but if you’re looking for a solid dress this may be the way to go.  Quince also makes a maternity version!  Amazon has a number of Somerset dupes, including this solid option and this velvet option.
