One of the things we upgraded when we moved into our new home was our television. We’d had a small, affordable Roku tv for a few years and it served all of our needs while we were waiting to put down roots…but a Samsung Frame TV was one of the first things purchased while our new house was being built. The designated spot for the tv in all of the townhouses in our development is over the fireplace, and I knew I wanted something that was functional as well as beautiful since it was going to be a focal point on our main floor. The Samsung Frame TV is the perfect solution!

What is a Frame TV?
A Samsung Frame TV is a television that has a sleek design and when mounted on the wall it lays flush against it and looks just like a picture frame. You can choose your own bezel, which attaches by magnets on the outside of the television. The way that they’re able to make such a thin television is by putting all of the technology “stuff” (for lack of a better word) in a box that is connected to the “frame” by a thin clear cord. When installed the ideal way, the box is recessed in the wall behind the television so that the TV lays flush against the wall. If recessing behind the wall, make sure the box is placed in a vented media center “box” that is mounted inside the wall. This is the one we have, and 14″ is the perfect size to hold a Frame TV box. Our installer (a great guy we found on TaskRabbit) removed the cover because it’s not actually needed, so if you get this box choose the “enclosure only” option. If you are unable to hide the box in the wall you can also place it inside a pretty box or basket and it will be mostly unnoticeable due to the clear cord.
Once mounted, you’re able to choose artwork and set it to display on the screen while the tv is not on. (You do this by downloaded the art to your phone and then uploading it on the SmartThings App.) The screen has a low amount of glare so once art is displayed it truly looks like a framed piece of art!
What Size Frame TV and Which Frame Did We Choose?
We purchased the 55″ size of the 2021 Samsung Frame TV. We have the Modern Teak Frame and I love the simple look and clean lines that it provides. I’ve heard that Deco TV Frames is a great source if you’re looking for a more ornate frame for your Frame TV, but I honestly prefer the look of the simple bezel frame for our home.
Where to Buy Frame TV Artwork
You can pay for an art subscription though Samsung, but I prefer to purchase the exact art that I want and then upload it via the SmartThings app. So far, I’ve purchased artwork 3 different ways, so I wanted to share those with you today!
First up is Urban Garden Prints. They’ve been a favorite source for fine art prints for a number of years now, and they’ve curated a fantastic collection of Frame TV artwork that you buy as a bundle (18 pieces for $40, and you can also use code STRIPES30 for 30% off). I have all three bundles, including the Grandmillennial Bundle, the Coastal Bundle, and the Coastal Grandmother Bundle.
Next up is Etsy. I haven’t explored this option too much, but in the fall I purchased a few wintery pieces to display to help make our living room nice and cozy. I have this set of 4 winter scenes (it was $3.90 for the set when I purchased), and I also purchased this snowscape painting.
Last but not least, is Jordan Connelly Studio. I discovered Jordan’s artwork a number of years ago and the beautiful South Carolina coastal scenes she paints and her use of color really captured my heart. I have yet to buy any real art from her (though I intend to one day!), but she sells her art as Frame TV artwork so I took advantage of that! Pricier than the other options I’ve listed, but they’re absolutely stunning and you’re able to bundle up and select 4 for a slightly discounted price, so that’s what I did. The default piece we have on display most of the time is Soft Marsh. We also have Blushing Marsh, Soul on Fire, and Weeping Oaks on Kiawah.

Thank you for your thoughtful review of the Frame tv. I am seriously considering purchasing one, 50 or 55, to fit our family room art wall. I share your concerns of not having a black tv screen on my wall and I also share your enjoyment of coastal scenes. I believe the Frame is the solution I am looking for.
Thank you again for taking the time to write your article.
Do you mind sharing your wall color? You have the best color palette in your house!

You are too kind, thank you! This is just the cheap paint from McCormack that the builders used and it has not held up well at all. I’m unsure of the color. I just bought Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee to redo our living room and kitchen, and it’s a similar white but a tad less creamy. Hope that helps!
What do you do for sound? I also wouldn’t want to a soundbar underneath it but the tv speakers can’t be very good can they?

Believe it or not, the sound from the tv is great! No need for anything else.
Hi Katie, we are considering the Frame TV for over our fireplace as well, which looks similar in size to yours. Can you share the width of your wall? Ours is 5′ wide and my husband thinks the 55″ frame TV would work well. I’m concerned about it being too big so also want to consider the 50″. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! So sorry for the delay in my response. We were traveling and I’m finally home and able to measure the wall. Our wall is 68.5″ wide, and the top of the mantle is 61.5″ wide. The 55″ tv is 50″ wide. I hope that helps! We love the tv so much!
Thank you so much! Very helpful. We are having ours installed today!
