Home Talk Tuesdays: Photos of our New Living Room

I’ve shared glimpses of our living room on the blog and on Instagram but don’t think I’ve done a full tour yet.  My friend Sarah Bradshaw (an incredibly talented wedding photographer) visited shortly after we moved in and she was so kind and offered to take some photos for me.  The blue built-ins flanking the fireplace had not been built yet, but you can find details on those here.  The photos of the built-ins were taken by me, and not Sarah.  Most everything you see is vintage or thrifted.  I really didn’t purchase anything new specifically for this space (other than the rug from Homesense), so if you’ve been following along for a while you’ll probably recognize most of these pieces you see here.  I’ve rearranged things a little since these photos were taken, specifically the areas flanking the sofa.  I’ll put a post together on that soon, because the back left corner of the room was quite tricky to get just right!

The coffee table was originally a very 80s stain and I found it at a thrift store.  That cane detail on the bottom was so beautiful and immediately stopped me in my tracks, and I knew the rounded corners would be great for kids.  I need to do a full blog post on the transformation because the makeover of this piece was quite the ordeal.  I tried a few different finish stripping methods first (my goal had been to see the wood grain) but that did not go well so it’s now painted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.  This is the main area my children play, and all the toys are tucked away in the blue cabinets.  Though let’s be honest…there are normally toys all over the place.  This is also where we all watch television, and we have a 55″ Samsung Frame TV mounted over our fireplace.  I love how it looks like a piece of art when it is turned off!  We have the modern teak frame.  The framed pressed hydrangea prints are from Urban Garden Prints and code STRIPES30 will save you 30% on their site.  They have the best collection of affordable art prints!  I wrote a full blog post on these hydrangeas, which you can read here.  The story behind my wingback chairs can be found here.  Questions about anything?

Hi Mary! Thank you! No, I found it at Homegoods close to 10 years ago. It’s Ralph Lauren and you can often find pretty blue and white RL lamps at Homegoods and TJ Maxx!

Thank you so much, Wendy! It’s fun looking back and remembering most of these pieces in all of our old homes. They hold lots of memories!
