We recently bought our first home here in the DC area (Arlington, VA- to be exact) and we figured that this was the perfect time to take family photos in our Nation’s Capitol! Jenny Bosak took our photos last year (the post includes tips on how to make it a more pleasant experience and there are also tips on choosing outfits) and I was excited to have her photograph our family again this year! The following photos were taking at the Supreme Court Gardens and in front of the Capitol building.
Dressy Family Photos in Washington, DC

I wore a navy velvet dress from Madison-Mathews (true to size, use code KATIE for 10% off), gold Loeffler Randall knot mules (size up half a size- they are so comfortable!), and delicate gold and diamond drop earrings that I bought over a decade ago.
The girls wore sweet white dresses with gold stars on them that I found at The Children’s Place, white tights, gold dress shoes, and bows. I also had simple white cardigans just in case Caroline decided she wanted sleeves- she’s particular about such things these days.
Tom wore what he wears to work at the Pentagon most days- a blue blazer, khakis, a white button down shirt with french cuffs, a tie, brown belt, and brown shoes. His clothing brand of choice these days is Sid Mashburn. If you have a clotheshorse husband like I do then definitely check them out!
Jack dressed in his “mini-daddy” outfit, which is what the kids have dubbed his dress clothes. Loafers are old from Gymboree, blue blazer, khakis, button down shirt, and belt are all recent purchases at J.Crew Factory. I bought his tie when he was a baby and he finally wore it for the first time.
Here are all of my favorite photos from the shoot!
The session was a bit of a roller coast with Caroline, but she held it together most of the time. The photo below was taken at the very end and it cracks me up!

Thank you, Ruth! Still working on narrowing down which ones to print- tough to pick a favorite!
