Tom and I recently hired a babysitter and had a date night- something that doesn’t happen often enough anymore! We went to Bresca in DC, which is a French restaurant with a Michelin star. We went out with some of my friends from West Point that I hadn’t seen since we were cadets over a decade ago (aside from a quick hello at the recent Army Navy football game), so it was fun to reminisce, catch up, and introduce them to Tom.

The meal at Bresca was fantastic- though I will say that it was quite expensive compared to the kid-friendly places we typically frequent. We did their Valentine’s Day tasting menu, which consisted of numerous courses and unexpected flavors and preparations. It was a fun fine dining experience if you’re looking for a special spot for a fancy date night out.
I wore a sleeveless black dress from Tuckernuck that I bought back in December. It’s so flattering, with its structured neckline and bell shaped silhouette. It’s intentionally roomy and has pockets and can be dressed up or down, and because it’s button front, it is a great nursing friendly option too. It runs true to size, I wear my normal size small. I wore it with my black suede tortoise shell block heels from J.McLaughlin (similar tortoise shell option still available– which I also have and can’t wait to wear on a warmer night!) but could just as easily have worn it with a pair of flat sandals if it had been warmer. It was a mild winter night so I was able to go barelegged but would have added black tights if it had been colder. I topped it off with my favorite dressy coat- the Lady Coat from J.Crew. The style reminds me of something Kate Middleton would wear because it’s tailored and feminine. It does run small- I sized up one size to a 6. I pulled out a Burberry wristlet clutch I bought probably 12 years ago, you can find some similar ones on used clothing sites.
On my lips I wore this bold red lipstick from Colourpop Cosmetics. The color is called Creeper and it’s only $8. It’s very bright but I think it’s the perfect shade of red to have on hand for when you want to wear a bold red lip, like Valentine’s Day and the holidays. The rest of my makeup is Beautycounter– favorites can be found in this blog post.
