Time for 10 random things!
All 3 of my kids are in school at the same time now, and it’s the weirdest feeling! The girls only go in the morning but having 3 hours to myself to work, tidy the house, grab coffee, grocery shop, or take a nap if I want (lol) is glorious so far. I keep walking around the house thinking that Tate is napping…but she’s actually at school! 3 hours to myself may not seem like a lot of time but when you’re used to not having any time alone then it suddenly seems like such a luxury! I’m planning on using this time to work on my blog (hopefully finishing one blog post a day- with blog posts published Monday, Wednesday and Friday), tidying the house so that it doesn’t look like pure chaos all of the time, and running errands as needed. We’re settling into our new routine nicely!
Caroline started gymnastics! We’re doing it through Arlington County and the first session was a smashing success (something I had not expected)! She really didn’t want to go or even put on a leotard at first (new things are hard for her, sometimes) but she ended up loving it and she now wants to go every single day! I’m so proud of her.
I’m currently reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and I’m really enjoying it. I actually like it better than the other book I’ve read by her (Firefly Lane). The Nightingale takes place in WWII-era France, so if you like novels from that era you need to read this book!
I don’t wear heels very often but I reallllllly want this pair of brown tortoise heels from J.McLaughlin. I have the raffia pair from the summer and they are stunning and they’re the perfect neutral statement heel to wear when it’s warm. This tortoise shell pair would be perfect for dressy fall occasions! This style runs tts.
One of my favorite styles of sneakers is the Tretorn Nylite, but I’ve noticed that they seem to be sold out everywhere. I have them in brown suede (hoping they bring back for the fall), white with blue on the side, and Nantucket red and they’re great sneakers to wear with dresses, shorts, and jeans. I finally found them available for pre-order though, so if you’re looking for a great pair of sneakers then now’s your chance! My top choices from the currently available (for pre-order) options are white with blue, all white, and this sand color. These have slightly more support and a comfier insole compared to my other favorite sneakers- Superga Cotu.
I just started the Glowbody PT Advanced 5K plan, which is an 8 week training plan that comes along as a bonus plan when you purchase the 10 Minute Plan. These are the best quick workouts I’ve ever done (each video is 10 minutes long) and Ashley (a fellow West Point grad, an Army wife, and mom of soon to be 4 children) has created videos that challenge you and change your body efficiently and effectively. Can’t recommend her plans enough! Code WHIMSY10 saves you $10 on all of her plans. I shared a full review of her post-pregnancy plan here. I decided to start it now that all 3 kids are in school and we have the ability to create some sort of routine. My plan is to work out in the mornings before they wake up. As I write this I’m on day 3, and I’ve been successful at early morning workouts all 3 days! I don’t like waking up early but I’m always so glad I did it.
I bought a bodysuit! I haven’t worn one in probably 25 years but I thought one would look nice with high waisted jeans this fall. This is the one I bought and it comes in a bunch of colors. Size up 1 size!
Tate is obsessed with buckles…I mean legit OBSESSED. She is constantly drawn to anything with a buckle, like her stroller, high chair, swing, and the trampoline net. Neither of my other kids were like this! I recently bought her this buckle pillow on Amazon because so many of y’all recommend it on Instagram and she carries it around all the time and works on the buckles. Now I just need to teach her to unbuckle them…
Tom and I tend to go through phases of watching older tv shows that we never caught when they were originally airing. Right now we’re watching 30 Rock! Fun fact- Jack MacBrayer’s parents were my soccer coaches in high school! They are the funniest couple so it’s no surprise that their son is hilarious too!
I know I’m going to be eating my words come December, but I’m really excited about fall fashion. It’s been so hot in DC and I’m excited to wear jeans and layers again. Anyone else? Be sure to read my latest blog post about fall clothing if you’re looking to add a few classics to your wardrobe this season.
Happy weekend, friends!
