It’s no secret that Charleston based Madison-Mathews is one of my very favorite sources for simple and classic dresses. I fell in love with their cotton embroidered dresses years ago (as seen here and here), but for the past couple of years my favorite style has been the Juliette dress, with buttons down the front (nursing friendly!) and a flattering A-line silhouette. The blue gingham one might be one of my favorite dresses of all time and it was a perfect travel dress, as seen here on a layover in Boston and on our trip to Ireland in 2019. Well, they recently came out with the Juliette dress in a fun and festive plaid flannel, and it’s the perfect dress for the season ahead! They kindly gifted this dress to me, so today I’m sharing 3 ways to wear this flannel dress, and I easily could have come up with half a dozen more options as well. This dress would also look great with tights once the weather is a little colder and you could even throw a Dudley Stephens Park Slope turtleneck over it, like I did in this blog post with another Juliette dress! It’s so versatile and comfortable and the perfect casual yet dressy addition to any wardrobe. Oh and you can use code KATIE to save 10% on this flannel dress, the other Juliette dresses, the Dolly dress (longer with tiers) and the Folly mini dress in hot pink silk! These dresses run true to size, but size up if you get the Dolly dress.
3 Ways to Wear a Plaid Flannel Dress

Outfit #1: Flannel Dress with Brown Suede Sneakers
This outfit is so great for mom life and for running errands (don’t forget to wear bike shorts under dresses, makes life SO much easier. These amazon ones are my favorite bike shorts and size up one size for the best fit.). It’s the perfect marriage of dressy and practical! These brown suede Tretorn sneakers have been in heavy rotation since I bought them. They’re incredibly comfortable and go perfectly with fall outfits. Size down half a size because they run large. I’m also wearing my favorite fall headband: a corduroy topknot headband from Sea Marie Designs. My letter coffee mug is from Pottery Barn.
Outfit #2: Flannel Dress with Ballet Flats and Sweater Blazer
This outfit is great for when the weather is a little cooler and you need a layer. One of my favorite ways to layer is with a sweater blazer because they look pulled together yet they’re totally comfy. This particular sweater blazer is a longer version that unfortunately doesn’t come in cream anymore, but it does come in a number of beautiful colors and I think camel, gray and black are great neutrals as well! I’m wearing my new brown ballet flats and they are the most beautiful chestnut color that will be incredibly versatile with dresses and pants alike. These ballet flats do run large, so size down half a size.
Outfit #3: Flannel Dress with Tall Boots and a Faux Fur Trimmed Parka
This outfit would probably call for tights too, but honestly I think it could work either way if it’s not too terribly cold outside. These tall brown boots are the most beautiful boots I’ve ever owned. They have a block heel that is really comfortable and easy to walk in. I love the lighter color too. They run true to size and come in some other pretty colors too. This parka has been on my wish list for years, and I sprung for it during a recent J.Crew sale. The faux fur trim is removable and it comes in so many beautiful colors. Highly recommend if you need a coat this year! It runs true to size. My earrings are old from Tuckernuck (a favorite source for unique pieces).
