As the momma of a baby girl I have bought my fair share of baby bows. Who can resist?! Caroline is now over a year and a half old and her hair is finally long enough for a clip-on bows! Happy happy day! It’s still really fine though so normal alligator clips (which are on most of the adorable bows made by small businesses, I believe) won’t stay in her hair quite yet. I decided to save some money and tried my hand at converting nylon headband bows to clip-on bows, so here is the super easy way that I did just that. (Oh and if you’re interested, here is my blog post on how I organize all of our nylon headbands and here is the blog post I wrote all about Caroline’s nursery!)
How I Converted Nylon Headband Bows to Clip-On Bows

Now before I get to the short “tutorial,” I figured I should share our favorite bows since I get asked this question pretty frequently. We had a Little Poppy Co. subscription for a while and I loved getting 3 bows a month to help us build our collection. We stopped it after about 6 months because we had amassed enough already, but I definitely recommend them if you’re looking into a subscription. We also love Hadley Girl, Belle and Bug Bows, Nashville Bow Co., and She’s More Bows.
First, I bought a pack of the snap clips that work with thin hair. Gold would have been a better color for Caroline’s blonde hair but black was all they had and it works just fine.
Some bow companies use glue to keep the bow stationary on the headband. These are a bit trickier to convert than the ones that don’t have glue on them. Simply snip the headband and pull it through so that the bow is no longer on the nylon band. If the nylon headband is glued on then you’ll have to snip the nylon on either side of the bow, or snip one side and pull hard enough to break the glue free.
Then just slide the bow onto the clip! Caroline wears her bows on the right side so I made sure to insert the clip in the appropriate direction. This technique has worked like a charm and we’re slowly converting bows as we need them. Depending on the way the bow is tied you may not be able to snap the clip closed, so just be sure to choose bows that don’t have really thick fabric at the tie/knot spot.
Have you converted you baby girl’s bows? Or did you just buy all new ones? This really is a great way to make these bows last a bit longer and to save some money!
Would you say that these clips work better or are more comfortable than the alligator clips?

If your daughter has not much hair or if it’s very fine then this type of clip stays in better. It definitely allowed my daughter to wear clip on bows because the alligator ones just slipped out. She’s upgraded to alligator clips now that she’s older though! Hope that helps!
