DIY Vintage Faux Bamboo Dining Chairs Update

Remember the vintage faux bamboo dining chairs I blogged about back in May?  You can see the post here if you missed it.  Anyway, I found the chairs for an amazing deal right before we moved from Kansas to Hawaii, and I did a little DIY update to them just in time for the movers to pack them up.  I had a bit of a hard time deciding what color to paint them and what fabric to use on the seats, and after painting them yellow and ordering striped fabric I ended up repainting them white and using this palm print fabric that I had left over from a project a few years ago.  The fabric is for indoor/outdoor use so they should be easy to keep clean.  I sanded them like crazy because the base is metal and they were very rusty.  I also removed the little feet that came on the chair (the swivel feet that are on classroom chairs) because they were falling apart.  I didn’t replace them with anything but one day I may find some little chair leg caps to pop the feet.  (I tried Home Depot but everything is too big.)  I used my trusty Rustoleum Universal Paint and Primer in One in White Gloss that I use on everything.

Here are a few “before” and “during” photos:

To see my steps on how to reupholster slip seats check out this blog post from 2014 when I updated a different set of chairs.  This time I used outdoor foam and skipped the batting (I had initially planned on using these outdoors but we don’t have space for that).

I’m so happy with how they turned out, although if you look closely on a few of the chairs the paint bubbled a little, for some reason.  Regardless, they’re the perfect tropical touch in our Hawaiian home.

As always, if you have any questions about the process please let me know!
