I’m really happy with last week’s workouts for a few reasons. First, running has become so much easier than it was just a week ago. I credit this to speed play (switching up the pace) and to consistent runs, no matter how short. I almost feel like my old self again when it comes to speed, although I still have endurance to work on. Secondly, I’m really proud that I was able to fit so much in while Tom was out of town for 5 days. This was the first time that I had my 2 month old all to myself for days at a time, and after a few long nights I didn’t really feel like working out. I’m so glad I did though because it gave me a burst of energy, my hips look a bit smaller (yay!), and it really helped with my stress level. Finally, I’m so glad I tried out a new workout! I realized that the Athleta store near me offers free workout classes pretty often, so I went to a Pure Barre class on Saturday. I’ll tell ya…it was a smoker! I have always wanted to try out Pure Barre, but it is way too expensive. I no longer have a Gold’s Gym membership either and I really miss going to workout classes, so I think I’m going to take advantage of all the free classes that Athleta and Lululemon offer.
I forgot to take a workout pic last week, but here we are shortly after Jack’s 2 month appointment. Isn’t his little smirk adorable?
Here are the workouts I completed this past week:
Tuesday, 1/5/15. 5.02 mile treadmill run in 46 minutes. I did speed intervals to keep it interesting and averaged a 9:11 pace. Felt pretty good. Followed up with the 15 minute Nike Training Club “Unstoppable” workout with 7.5 pound dumbbells and 8 pound medicine ball. Also did 2 minutes of planks.
Wednesday, 1/6/15. 3.65 mile walk in 1 hour and 4 minutes. It was below freezing but nice and sunny. Pushed Jack in the stroller and run up the hills. Jack slept the whole time.
Thursday, 1/7/15. 15 minute Nike Training Club “Gym Sculpt” workout with 7.5 pound dumbbells and 8 pound medicine ball. Jack got fussy the last 4 minutes so he was my weight at the end.
Friday, 1/8/15. 2 mile treadmill run in 17 minutes. Did intervals and averaged an 8:30 pace. I tried to follow up with a 30 minute Nike Training Club workout, but Jack got fussy so I was only able to complete 23 minutes of it.
Saturday, 1/9/15. Free 45 minute Pure Barre workout at Athleta. I now know what all the hype is about! Pure Barre is HARD and really does work all the little muscles you can’t normally target by lifting weights. I’m still sore 2 days later!
Sunday, 1/10/15. 3.1 mile treadmill run in 25:00 minutes. Did speed intervals because I tend to get bored if I just keep it at the same pace. Averaged an 8:05 pace. Jack kept getting fussy (parked in the stroller next to me) so I kept the run short. We went to Annapolis after working out and did a good bit of walking. It was a gorgeous day!
that's a great tip on the nike training club workouts – looks like they are only 15 minutes? will check out as now that means i truly have no excuses….thanks !
It is such a great app! They have workouts ranging from 5 minutes to 45 minutes with all different types of exercises depending on your goal and fitness level. I definitely recommend giving it a shot!
You should check out this website. Only $15 a month. http://barre3.com/ I like the workouts and it is a fraction of the price I used to pay to take similar barre classes at the gym.
It was such a great workout! I definitely want to do it again. There's something great about being sore from a workout, even if it is a little painful!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE barre workouts. Too expensive for me, too… but holy cow, that workout!!

Love the barre workouts, too. I've purchased some DVDs because, yes, the classes are too expensive. Jack's smirk IS adorable!
Right? So good but so expensive!
Thanks Maureen!

Thanks for the recommendation Lyndsey! $15 sounds way better than $125 a month!
