Weekly Workout Recap

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend!  I missed my workout recap last week so I’ll include the past two weeks of workouts here today.  I’m officially 33 weeks pregnant today and not only has exercising gotten more difficult, but sleeping, bending over and simply walking have gotten more difficult too.  I’ve really enjoyed pregnancy up to this point, and I still do, but I now understand why pregnant women move slowly and “waddle” sometimes…because I’m definitely a slow moving waddler now too!

That being said, I still think it’s important to maintain my fitness during this journey.  I’m not doing nearly as much as I used to, but even a 30 minute elliptical workout makes me feel better and more energetic throughout the rest of day.  I had an OB appointment last week and I’ve officially gained 27 pounds.  I don’t feel like I’ve gained that much, and most of it seems to be in my belly and boobs.  I should continue to gain a pound a week until the end, so I should be on track to gain a healthy 35 pounds.  The baby is nice and healthy and his heartbeat is strong and so magical to hear!  The midwife told me to keep up my workouts, so that’s exactly what I plan on doing.  Below are the workouts I’ve completed these past two weeks:

1 day short of 33 weeks pregnant!  This was taken after my run yesterday.  My belly is getting so big!

Tuesday, 9/1.  1 mile run in 11 minutes on the treadmill, followed by 1.6 miles in 20 minutes on the elliptical.  Elliptical was on high incline and resistance.

Thursday, 9/3.  2.7 mile in 30 minutes on the elliptical.  13 minute dumbbell workout following elliptical workout.

Sunday, 9/6.  2.5 mile run in 31 minutes.  1 loop around Centennial Lake.  Felt good at first then slowed down because I had to use the restroom and got a cramp/round ligament pain.  I never stopped running though until the last .15 miles when I met up with my husband.  We finished those last .15 miles together (even though he had just finished a MUCH longer run).

Tuesday, 9/8.  2.35 mile early morning elliptical workout in 30 minutes.  15 minute strength training workout using dumbbells after elliptical workout.

Thursday, 9/10.  1 mile early morning treadmill run in 11 minutes.  Couldn’t handle more than a mile so I switched to the elliptical and did 2.35 miles in 30 minutes.  Uterus continued to feel tight and uncomfortable.  Not fun!

Sunday, 9/13.  2.5 mile run in 34 minutes.  Slow loop around Centennial Lake.  Felt great when I started, then started getting a cramp after half a mile.  Managed to run the whole time other than .25 miles.  Felt a little achy the rest of the day.  It’s frustrating to feel good and not be able to run like I want to.  The weather was perfect and all I wanted to do was run fast and far!

This next week I plan to taper off my running.  It makes me sad to think about, but it’s gotten pretty difficult so it may be time to give it up.  I’ll supplement it with more elliptical workouts and strength training though, so I have no excuse to just sit around!

What are your fitness goals this week?  I hope you all have a great one!

You're doing so great! Congratulations on keeping up with your fitness. I'm at 36 weeks and definitely at the waddle stage…

Thanks Leslie! Gosh it's so hard at the end, isn't it? 40 weeks is too long! I knew I'd start to get uncomfortable but gosh, it sure is humbling. Good luck with your final few weeks! I'm sure you're so excited to meet your little one!

Well done Katie! I remember before I was pregnant with you I was running 6 miles most days. Then, I stopped cold and walked and did other work outs for nine months. We didn't know, soon 28 years ago, what was healthy or not about exercise and pregnancy. I admire your discipline and knowledge. All your hard work will pay off on my grandbaby's birthday! I can't wait!!

Thanks Momma! I'm glad that knowledge of what is good and healthy during pregnancy has grown and changed. I can't imagine having to give up running cold turkey like you did. I can't wait for "our" baby to get here! You're going to be the best grandma ever 🙂 I love you!

Are there any "mommy to be" or pregnancy blogs that you have been reading while you've been pregnant?

Hi Katie! To be honest I haven't really read many pregnancy blogs. I've tended to rely on books and apps during this time. I'm working on a post on which ones are my favorite and I hope to publish it soon. Thanks for reading! Oh wait! I did read Style Within Reach from time to time (she's an Editor of Glitter Guide). She had a baby a few months ago and she provided some great sources for products and things like that. Might be worth check out!
