Winter Mantel

We are in the weird and kind of miserable time after the holidays and before spring.  It’s cold outside, the Christmas decorations are gone so everything is dreary and sad looking…and spring is nowhere in sight.  It’s an odd time to decorate too, because you don’t want to pull out brightly colored spring decor, but you have to take down all your Christmas decor.  What’s a girl to do with her mantel then???

Decorate it with a winter theme!

For my winter themed mantle I decided to keep the antlers I used on my Christmas mantel (antlers are good year-round in my opinion).  I also added brass elements because brass gives off a warm glow that’s perfect in the winter.  The brass antelope isn’t exactly wintery, but I figured it sort of worked because I was playing off of the antler theme.  The grouping of vintage brass candlesticks is a great way to use pieces that might otherwise end up on the back of a shelf somewhere.  I’ve collected these unique pieces from different antique stores over the years and love that they currently have a home on the mantel.

I added two hurricanes and pillar candles on either side of the mantel, and found my most wintery piece of art to use as the centerpiece.  My brother bought me this vintage poster for Christmas one year when we were in Garmisch, Germany, and I have always loved it.

How do you decorate your mantle at this time of year?

Note:  I wrote this right after Christmas and forgot to publish it.  My mantel does not look like this anymore (which I’m sure you’ve noticed if you follow me on Instagram…I have a little bit of mantel ADD and it changes almost weekly), but it looked like this for a while and I loved it!
