Does anyone else out there not have a real headboard? It’s not that I don’t want one, I’m just not ready to spend the money to have the perfect one designed, and let’s be honest…I don’t know if I have the patience to create one myself. I found the perfect solution recently though, and I couldn’t be happier! Remember the vintage bamboo screen I had in my old apartment?
Well, thanks to the layout of this new apartment I don’t have any room for it…which made me get creative in coming up with a way to use it while taking up less space…and that’s how it became our headboard! All I did was place it behind our queen sized bed, and it instantly made the bedroom look so much more pulled together and grown up.
Do any of you have another solution to combat the no-headboard-dilemma? I’d love to hear how you get creative while decorating your bedroom!
P.S. Please ignore my naked duvet…I just ordered a new duvet cover and I can’t wait to get it in the mail!
I've been in the same headboard situation for years! Right now I'm using a six painted canvases to create the visual sense of a headboard, but one of these days I'll get a gorgeous upholstered one! And, omg, I love the gold polka dots and black stripes.
Ive been wanting to DIY one, I have been looking at a blank wall for years. This is perfect Katie!!

My husband made a headboard for our guest room using a bead board panel that he bought at the hardware store. He put some posts around it for a frame and painted it apple green – it's great! Love your blog!
Thanks Laurel! Yep I've been wanting to DIY one too, but don't even have the space to work on something that large (plus it seems pretty daunting). I bet if you DIY one though it'll look great and I'll probably have to copy your idea 🙂
Natalie, thanks for sharing that idea! I've never thought to put a blanket over something like a headboard (although I'm quick to do it over an ugly couch or chair). Thanks for neat idea!

My daughter and her boyfriend, who are much closer to your age than I, used old shutters. Painted them black and mounted them to the wall.
Totally ingenious! Can't wait to see the duvet cover!
Great idea! And while it's not a replacement for a headboard, but I liked the idea of draping a blanket over an existing headboard here: http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2014/11/getting-ready-for-holiday-guests.html
Thanks Heather! Your "headboard" sounds like another great and creative alternative to the headboard dilemma. Bet it looks fantastic 🙂
