Any surface is fair game when it comes to decorating for Christmas. My white Ikea Kallax bookcase serves as my entryway table (I blogged about it here), and it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the apartment so naturally, I had to decorate it for Christmas! But first, let me tell you about the fabulous sequined ornaments in the photo above. I found them at an antique store recently and they are giant sequined Christmas light ornaments that are also sort of like Easter eggs because they open up right in the middle. Ok so maybe they aren’t exactly giant, but they are 7 inches long, so that’s pretty sizable. I snagged 7 of them with the intent of selling them in my soon-to-open Etsy Store…but I love them so much so I don’t know if I’ll sell them or not. If you’re interested in them let me know. You may be able to change my mind 🙂
Decorating a surface for Christmas really isn’t too difficult if you decide to have fun with it. Remember the jingle bells I put on my mantel? Well, I had a whole bunch left over so I threw them in an apothecary jar. I did the same thing with those sequined ornaments. You can find lots of apothecary jars at TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Hobby Lobby, and you can use them with different items all year round.
Next, I added a mini Christmas tree (mine is a vintage ceramic one that lights up from the inside that I found at an antique store). It’s a little kitschy but I LOVE it! My grandmother has a green one and I grew up admiring it, so when I saw this one I had to have it.
Next, I added some Christmasy art. I replaced one of the pictures in my gallery wall with my “Merry Christmas Y’all” print by Stephanie Creekmur. It’s a fun seasonal touch that reminds me I’m a Southern girl even though I’m not in Georgia anymore.
Finally, add some candy in a pretty dish and whatever other little Christmas knickknacks I had laying around. I chose a disco ball and a shiny gold star. I was done with the whole look in about 5 minutes.
I hope y’all are having as much fun as I am while decorating for Christmas! It’s such a perfect opportunity to change things up a bit, and thankfully it’s totally acceptable to go a little “over the top” with color and whimsy 🙂
My mom has one of those light up trees too! I would DEFINITELY buy those sequined lights. I was just going to ask you where you got them 🙂
I'd buy them all!
My mother has one of those Christmas trees but it's green – I had never seen one in white but it's so fabulous!
Thanks Heather! Yep, I'm partial to the white one because it looks a bit more modern. Love the green ones too though!
Lauren, I got them at a giant antique mall in Williamsburg, VA. I'll list a few on Etsy once it's up and running, so keep a lookout!
So glad you like them!! Aren't they fab? I'll be listing a few of them on Etsy once I get everything all set up!
