My Home Decor Wish List

Am I the only one who has a running wish list of items for my dream house?  I keep the list on my phone so that I can update it whenever the mood strikes, and so far I’ve managed to keep the list fairly realistic (aside from the fact that I honestly don’t have much room for anything else at this point in my life).  For me, most of this list includes items that I’d like to find at a flea market rather than at a fancy store.  I love a good bargain, and I also truly enjoy the process of creating a unique piece by making small and simple changes to a “diamond in the rough.”  So far I’ve checked wingback chairs, a bar cart, and mid-century dining chairs off of the list, but many items remain as I have yet to find the perfect pieces.  Here is what’s on my wish list (at the moment):

Pair of X Benches.  I just love a matching pair of X benches.  They sit perfectly at the base of a bed or under a console table, or pretty much anywhere you need them.  I want to upholster them in a fun and funky pattern, which is why I’m looking for a used pair that needs a little love.

Glam Vintage Mirror.  I love large pretty mirrors, but so far the only ones I’ve ever owned have been from TJ Maxx.  My dream is to find a glamorous vintage mirror with a unique shape so that I can hang it in an entryway or prop it on the mantle or a bar cart.

Headboard.  At the moment I’m a bit torn between wanting a headboard with a bold color or pattern and knowing that a neutral headboard will likely last me a lot longer.  I think I may try my hand at making my own headboard, I just need the time and space to do so.  At this point I should probably have more than just a bed frame, so this item will likely be checked off the list sooner rather than later (hopefully).

Vintage Dresser.  I currently have two tall dressers that are not very good quality.  One is from Ikea and is 5 years old, so it’s about on it’s last leg after all the moves these past few years.  I’d love a long, low antique dresser, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for either a campaign style dresser or a faux bamboo dresser on Chairish (a great source for vintage furniture, although I have yet to purchase anything from the site).

Antique Bust.  Ok so you might think this is a little weird, but the reason I’d like a bust is so that I can hang my necklaces on it or display it on a table (and maybe dress it up with a fun hat).  I’ve seen a few at Home Goods recently, but I want an old, heavy, concrete one.

Diptyque Candle.  This is an item that I’d purchase new (obviously) but I have a hard time justifying spending $30 to $60 on a candle.  These Diptyque candles smell so amazing, and it’s no wonder that they’ve created such a cult following.  Plus the glass candle holder can be used as a little vase or cup to hold your make-up brushes once the candle has been used.  I’ve never owned one of these candles before, but maybe I’ll ask for one for Christmas.

Now that you’ve seen what’s on my list, I’d love to hear what is on yours!  I’m always looking for unique things to add to my list, and would love to hear your suggestions.

I love this list, and the photos are so inspiring! I used to cut pictures out of Architectural Digest and House Beautiful magazines and glue them in a notebook… old school Pinterest! I think I'll start back up when I get home from this deployment. I've decorated my room as much as I can but everything is drab and limited here. Can't wait for "real life" and inspiration again 🙂

I'm also on the lookout for an antique bust for my necklaces.

Love your blog – just got introduced to it from a mutual Facebook friend whose living room you designed. Anyway… I love interior design, and just got my dream home, but I'm having trouble getting into designing my rooms because of my children! I have 3 boys – 8, 6, and 1. They destroy everything!!! I can't have things on tables, my light colored berber is practically destroyed (we've only been there 6 months!). Oh, did I mention we have two dogs? I would love to see some tips!
