Ok so our Memorial Day trip to Cape Henry, on Fort Story in Virginia Beach, could hardly be considered “glamping” (glam camping), but we didn’t have to set up a tent, so I’m going to stick with that name. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of DC for a few days, even though I’m now extremely sunburned from our one day at the beach. The little cabin was rustic and had nothing but a bed, but it was exactly what we needed and we got to spend lots of time in the sun and outside cooking.
Memorial Day is a difficult day for me because I can’t help but think about Dimitri and the friends I’ve lost who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I wore my Team Del shirt all day while not in a bikini, and I spent the day remembering and enjoying the sunshine and the beach with Tom. I designed the Team Del shirts shortly after Dimitri died, and I’ve run many races in them because they motivate me to push through the pain. Hundreds of others now have Team Del shirts too, and it always warms my heart when I see photos of other people remembering Dimitri through exercise.
Here is a recap of the weekend and our “glamping trip.” I hope you all had a lovely weekend full of remembrance of those who gave their lives for our nation.
My Audi with bike rack (yes, it’s pink) and our camping cabin.
Tom manning the kitchen and cooking a yummy breakfast.
Me pretending to look busy.
This Coleman stove is a lifesaver while camping. Super handy for heating up water or cooking when you don’t want to build a fire.
French press, illy coffee (the best coffee ever), and an Anthropologie candle. Gotta bring the essentials while roughing it…
Mmmmmmmm French Press.
Bisquick in a jug…breakfast of champions.
Cape Henry lighthouse.
Exploring Fort Story. This boardwalk was really pretty.
Go Team Del! Miss you Dimitri. Thank you for giving your life for all of us.
I'm so glad you had a good weekend and were able to enjoy it while remembering the sacrifice of your husband as well as all those who have come before and after him. I was praying for you this weekend.
Glad you were able to escape the city for the weekend. Hopefully your trip was peaceful and relaxing! Out of curiosity, what did you think of the beaches in the VA Beach area? I've been looking for somewhere close enough to do a weekend trip with decent beaches.
Thanks Leslie! VA beach definitely isn't somewhere I'd want to go spend an entire week, but for a weekend it was nice because it wasn't too far of a drive but it was still a worthwhile getaway.

Thanks Zelle!
I hope you enjoyed my hometown!! You picked the nicer, quieter part of the beach for sure…..a good place for remembering. OBX is our holiday spot!
