Easy and Unique Christmas Decor

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone it’s time to decorate for Christmas!  I am a bit lazy and prefer to not get a real Christmas tree (I have a BEAUTIFUL white fake tree that looks awesome with bright, colorful ornaments), but I do still like to incorporate a bit of greenery in my home this time of year.  My tip for free greenery?  Head to your local store that is selling Christmas trees and ask for the branches that were cut off that are scattered on the ground near the tree wrapping machine.  I got a whole bunch of free, wonderfully smelling greenery from my local Whole Foods and I also gathered a few sprigs of pretty red berries from a bush in a park.  Easy and free decorating!

My favorite thing to do with the greenery and berries is to display them as a centerpiece (or in an entryway, or on a mantle, or on a kitchen counter) with antique cheese graters and candles.    My mom has always decorated with graters passed down from her grandmother, and recently she passed a few down to me.  I just used an old silver serving tray ($15 from Goodwill…it’s amazing what a little silver polish will do), popped a votive under each grater, threw a few sprigs of greenery and berries around them, and tied ribbon on two of the graters.  If you don’t have any hand-me-down graters, head to Salvation Army or Goodwill and scoop up a few aged and tarnished ones.  It’s a simple way to decorate for Christmas, and it costs hardly any money at all!

Stay tuned for more easy and festive decorating tips over the next few days!

That is a really cute idea! I want a big fake white tree just to have fun with it, thinking of getting one at clearance this year so I could use it "for the blog" next year 😉
