Columbus Day weekend was busy, exciting and exhausting! I kicked it off by running the Baltimore Marathon on Saturday. This was my 4th marathon in less than 2 years, and boy am I glad to be taking a break for a while! I finished in 3:40:16, which was a little over 90 seconds faster than my previous personal record (PR). My boyfriend Tom ran it too, and he finished in a speedy 3:29:46! The weather was pretty stormy and miserable this past week in the DC area, but luckily the weather broke and we had a nice cloudy sky, temperatures in the 60s and hardly any rain. The rolling hills were brutal, but the cheering crowd and support really helped. It is amazing to see what your body can do when you put your mind to it, and the feeling of accomplishment after crossing the finish line makes it all worth it. More importantly….I’m happy to be able to take some time off from running now! Yoga, spin class and strength training have been on the back burner for too long, and I’m excited be able to switch things up a bit now.
After the Baltimore Marathon. So tired and HAPPY to be finished!
On Sunday Tom and I went to Taste of DC with some friends. Thank goodness we ran a marathon the day before, because there were booths from over 80 restaurants from the DC area all selling delicious food! We pigged out on guacamole with chips, ribs, chili dogs, and crepes with Nutella (and quite a bit of beer). I haven’t been able to wear fall clothes since 2009 because of the 3 years I spent in Hawaii, so it was also fun to get to wear my new leather jacket and Burberry scarf.
After Taste of DC we went to The Round Robin Bar which is inside the beautiful and historic Willard Hotel. The Willard is 2 blocks from the White House, and it is where the term “lobbyist” is rumored to have originated. Famous people from history such as Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, and Mark Twain have all frequented the hotel, and the Round Robin was also ranked as one of the best bars in America by Esquire in 2013. Afterwards we ate dinner at The Old Ebbitt Grill and walked around to see the White House. It was a pretty touristy night, but wonderful nonetheless. This city never gets old! Hope y’all had a great weekend too!
